Grantland Rice was a syndicated sportwriter , who, from 1925, named the football All-America teams. He gave the nickname the “Four Horsemen” to the 1924 Notre Dame backfield. He wrote the following:
     “For when the One Great Scorer comes
     To mark against your name,
     He writes – not that you won or lost –
     But how you played the Game.”
