 ²  The Washington school commonly referred to as Aberdeen High School, is in fact officially known as J. M. Weatherwax High School since 1908.

 ³  Commonly known as the Texas Shorthorns, a two-year college in the Texas A&M University system, was officially called Grubbs Vocational College. It originally was founded as Arlington College (1895-1902), then Carlisle Military Academy, 1902-1913; Arlington Training School, 1913-1916 and the Arlington Military Academy, 1916-1917, joining the Texas A&M system in 1917. Grubbs Vocational College, 1917-1923. In 1923 it was renamed the North Texas Agricultural College (NTAC), becoming Arlington State College in 1949. During all these years, the sports press reported them as the Texas Shorthorns. In 1959, it became a four year college. In 1965, it left the Texas A&M University system, becoming part of the University of Texas, as the University of Texas at Arlington.

 5  Pope Field was an air force base in North Carolina. The football team in 1949 had two black (“Negro”) players. When, on October 1, 1949, High Point College played this service team, they became the first white school to play a team including black players in the state of North Carolina.

 6  Montgomery, Pa. is near neighboring towns of Exchange and Washingtonville. Today, Exchange teens attend Washingtonville High. The Sporting News 1915 Annual Football Guide, shows this school as “Ex-Wash HS”. That the opponent is Exchange-Washingtonville High is an educated guess. No evidence has been found so far.
