From Brooklyn Eagle, December 2, 1942: Manh'tn Beach 11 Gets Sun Bowl Bid/Sun Bowl officials have wired an invitation to the Manhattan Beach Coast Guard Station's football team to perform in the New Year's Day game at El Paso, Tex., it was announced today./The Coast Guard outfit has won six games and yied one and were invited to participate in a wire from Dr. Harvey Homan, Jr.  The Western representative in the Sun Bowl will be Hardin-Simmons, co-champions of the Border Conference./Authorities at Washington and the Coast Guard Station here would both have to sanction the trip before the Sailors could compete.// Manhattan Beach would decline the invitation; The Second Air Force would play instead and win 13 to y on 1/1/1943.
Manhattan Beach declined the Sun Bowl invitation.. The Second Air Force Bombers played instead on 1/1/1943, winning 13 to 7.
