Newspaper article from The Sun, November 23, 1896. “Football Game by Girls”. Les Jolta Jarcons, a pleasure club gave an entertainment at Sulzer's Harlem Park. A masked ball included a highly advertised football game between teams of girls. The 'short' skirts, the colorful stockings, the girls tackling both themselves and the crowd, led to cops closing down this first female football game before any scoring.
